Coachella 2016

Scottish DJ Calvin Harris was the headline act at this year’s Coachella festival in California and ER Productions was thrilled to be part of the story. Harris is the first EDM artist ever to close the 3-day festival and was joined on stage during his hour long set by Big Sean, John Newman and Rhianna.

With a US office fully equipped to meet the needs of North American shows and events, ER worked closely with show designer Baz Halpin, to bring his stunning laser design to life. With two weeks of production rehearsals, ER Production’s experienced crew had ample time to perfect the laser choreography, which was done under the watchful eye of General Manager, Lawrence Wright.

Operated by Eric Marchwinski, the show was controlled using a GrandMA2 system and Pangolin Beyond software. ER Productions collaborated with Pangolin’s development team to create new bespoke features for the software, which enabled the lasers to be controlled through the lighting desk.

Being part of a well planned and executed show meant that the visual aspects of the production looked fantastic. The lasers, which were seamlessly integrated into the performance by ER, added excitement at key moments through the performance.

To achieve the look, we used our Beamburst and Laserblade lasers combined with scanning systems including the Excellent 21 and Phaenon X Pro. As always it was an absolute pleasure to provide lasers for the Coachella festival particularly for this year’s closing, headline set.”
Lawrence Wright added, “This was our biggest Coachella install to date exclusively from our US office and incorporating new technology and show operations methods. Although challenging, it was rewarding to be working on a show with such high production values and I’m very proud of our team and the end result!"
