27 Years at the top
Legendary Ibiza nightclub, Space, closed its doors with a bang after 27-years dominating the white isle’s EDM scene. With closing events throughout September and October, including Carl Cox’s final Music is Revolution fiesta, Space gave partygoers a send-off they’ll remember forever.
ER Productions has been supplying lasers to Space for the last 5- years, which includes Carl Cox’s residency, Sundays at Space and the 27th Anniversary fiesta amongst other special events.
One of the most versatile venues on the island, the club’s physical space lends itself perfectly to laser production, which gave ER Productions the opportunity to create a range of distinctive looks.
Working closely with the club’s technical team helmed by Gonzalo Menéndez, ER’s resident Ibiza laser technician, Seth Griffiths, created a dynamic laser installation this year using scanning lasers including Laserblades, Beambursts and ARC Regus systems, which were controlled through FB4 racks.
Beamburst lasers were rigged across the bottom of the LED screens, which flanked the side of the stage and created a striking effect. Additionally, Laserblades lined the edge of a huge screen at the centre of the stage behind the DJ, which was operated and programmed live by Griffiths during shows.
To create a different look for Carl Cox’s big finale, Seth programmed the show to reflect the atmosphere on the night. “He [Carl] arrived armed with vinyl for his last set, which set the tone of the laser design. It was a much simpler, cleaner look, using retro style laser content to reflect the ‘old-school’ vibe”, said Griffiths after the show.
All the lasers used at Space were customised to create a range of unique looks, which couldn’t be replicated by any other venue in Ibiza. For example, customised crisscrossing Beambursts and scanning lasers were used on Carl Cox’s shows and a bespoke DMX controlled spinning truss, rigged with ten Beambursts, was created for Sundays at Space.
In terms of innovation, ER Productions has introduced an assortment of new laser technologies to the club over the years. “This is the first year we have used Laserblades in Ibiza” continued Seth. “The full colour laser battens create a unique effect, which we capitalised on this season. They were rigged at the back of the main stage, crisscrossing over Carl Cox’s head between a plethora of LED screens.”
With a permanent manned warehouse and office facility in Ibiza, ER Productions works on a wide variety of different installations on the Island, ranging from high end private events to award winning nightclubs.
Marc Webber, Director of ER Productions added, “Ibiza has been our summer home for many years now, we love the Island and all of the work we do there. Although we’re sad to see Space closing, it was fantastic to be involved in some of the club’s biggest events to date and I have a feeling they’ll be back in the not too far future.”
